Living in a pool of pain so deep my feet never touch the bottom,
Always qualifying my existence but never …quite … measuring up,
What hopelessness, what sorrow?
Expecting rejection around every corner and finding it there, ready to greet me.
The love I need to receive, barricaded outside a wall I’ve built for my survival,
The love I want to give, weary of the struggle to see the light of day.
